Classifications for ISO 5 Cleanroom Particle Count
ISO cleanroom cleanliness standards are based on a room’s particle levels within a given area. The specified area is measured according to the quantity and size of particles per volume of air. The differences between ISO classes and the number of allowable particles per particle size can be observed in the ISO cleanroom classification table below.
ISO 5 Cleanroom Standards & Quality Requirements
Cleanroom classifications are determined by the number and size of particles permitted per volume of air in a specific amount of time. Air changes per hour also has an impact on a cleanroom’s class rating. An ISO 5 or Fed-Std 209E class 100 cleanroom must have 100,000 particles per cubic meter or less ≥0.1 µm sized particles, 23,700 particles per cubic meter or less ≥0.2 µm sized particles, 10,200 particles per cubic meter or less ≥0.3 µm sized particles, 3,520 particles per cubic meter or less ≥0.5 µm sized particles, 835 particles per cubic meter or less ≥1 µm sized particles, and 29 particles per cubic meter or less ≥5 µm sized particles. An ISO 5 class cleanroom must also maintain 240-600 air changes per hour with a ceiling coverage of 35-70%.
